Present Simple 

VI (-s- he, she, it)/  do/does VI 

1. обычные,регуляр­ные, повторяющиеся  действия и состояния  в настоящем:

Не usually comes at 6. 

It is hot in summer.

2. в придаточных пред­ложениях времени и условия:

If the weather is good, we shall go to the country.

3. о расписании поездов, начале матчей, филь­мов и т. д.:

The train arrives at 12.30.

Present Continuous 

am /is/are Ving

1.действие в процессе, происходящее в мо­мент речи:

Look, Ann is playing with the dog.

2. заpaнее запланированное действие (я с кем- то договорился)

I am meeting ту friends tonight. My aunt is coming to visit us.

3. упрек, обида, раздра­жение с указателями времени (always, all the time, constantly): 

Why are you com­plaining all the time?

Не употребляются в Continuous / Perfect Continuous гла­голы, которые выражают состояние, а не действие: hear, like, dislike, adore, appreciate,agree, believe, expect, suppose, understand, belong, contain, depend, know,mean, own,possess, need, prefer, require, want, wish, keep, etc.
